The AKC Canine Good Citizen is an award for dogs that demonstrate essential skills and basic manners around people and other dogs. This class practices and provides the tools needed to pass the Canine Good Citizen test.

Class length: 6 weeks

Canine Good Citizen topics include:

  • Loose leash walking
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Sit, down, stay, on command
  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Calm being groomed/examined (practice for a simple vet exam)
  • Behave politely with other dogs
  • Reaction to distraction
  • Supervised separation
