Intermediate introduces increased challenges and expectations as you build on the skills learned in Basic Obedience. Practice and refine commands such as come, stay, and leash awareness while learning to work successfully around real-world distractions.

Basic skills such as come, watch me, leash awareness, and stay, are worked at a higher degree of challenge for you and your dog. Additional skills taught include heel on the other side, the finish, and stand.

Yes. Intermediate is designed specifically for graduates of Kindred Spirits Basic Obedience so that all dogs and handlers enter class with the same foundational skills, training concepts, and communication methods already in place.
Basic Obedience focuses on teaching foundational skills and communication. Intermediate builds on those foundations by increasing distractions, practicing in more challenging environments, and refining your dog’s reliability and focus in everyday situations.
Intermediate builds on the skills learned in Basic Obedience by adding greater distractions, distance, duration, increased difficulty, and more advanced handling skills.
Topics may include improved recalls, leash awareness, heel work, stays with distance, send aways, emergency downs, weave, hand signals, and confidence-building exercises.
Many easily distracted dogs benefit from Intermediate because the class focuses on improving focus, engagement, and calm behavior around distractions.
However, dogs with significant fear, reactivity, or aggression may benefit from private training or a different class setting first. We are happy to help determine the best fit for your dog.
Intermediate is about more than simply knowing commands indoors. The real challenge is applying those skills reliably around distractions, excitement, movement, and new environments.
This class helps strengthen communication, focus, reliability, and real-world manners.
Basic Obedience focuses on teaching foundational skills and communication. Intermediate builds on those foundations by increasing distractions, practicing in more challenging environments, and refining your dog’s reliability and focus in everyday situations.
We use a combination of obedience training and concept training, along with “choosing games.”
While obedience training teaches dogs specific cues, concept training helps dogs develop focus, confidence, self-control, and thoughtful decision-making in real-life situations. Choosing games helps dogs use their brain, and figure out what works and doesn't work.
Our goal is not only to teach dogs what to do, but to help them want to make good choices while building a stronger relationship with their people.

Please bring plenty of treats, a regular leash (no retractable leashes), and a properly fitted collar or harness.
You can also bring water for your dog and anything else your dog may need to feel comfortable and successful during class.
Absolutely. Many dogs benefit from repeating Intermediate as their skills, confidence, and focus continue to improve.
